Walk the Highline

The High Line is a wonderfully imaginative and really well executed elevated public park. It is an outdoor garden and pedestrian walkway reclaimed from now defunct rail tracks. In 1999 neighborhood residents Joshua David and Robert Hammond formed Friends of the High Line and in 2009 the first (southernmost) section, from Gansevoort Street to 20th Street, opened. In 2011 the second section (20th to 30th Street) opened, and the third section (30th to 34th), opened in 2014. A thriving neighborhood has developed around the Highline. There are food vendors, small restaurants, and even nice public rest rooms (at 16th St.) on the elevated walkway. More details on the High Line's 's NYC Parks website.
